Moore before he was ejectedBill Moore lasted only one game in SELAF as the head coach of this year’s new team, the Gladiators. He left the team after the 21-14 home loss to the Belgrade Vukovi, in which he was ejected in the fourth quarter after protesting a call by the officials.
The Gladiators were severely penalized throughout the game, and when a potential tying touchdown catch by Hannes Kamber was ruled incomplete because he landed with one foot out of bounds and the other on the line, Moore’s loud protests left the officials no choice but to remove him from the game. More than unhappy, Moore continued to argue with the officials even after the game was over.
Andreas Mayer, manager of the Gladiators, apologized for the behavior of their now former coach, and also some of their players.
“These were not the Gladiators that we want to be and of course not the
Glads that we are normally”, said Mayer.
Mayer also said that, while they will consider adding a new coach next year, for this year they will rely on the remaining members of the staff, that includes Steve Zundl, head coach of Austrian Division II member Styrian Stallions.
The Gladiators’ next game is the North derby in Budapest against the Wolves on the 19th of May.
