Crobowl in its second year

The first and only American football team from Croatia has, for Saturday the 20th of October, scheduled a friendly tournament – Crobowl – now in its second year. Zagreb Thunder will be host for three other teams, all competing in an elimination style tournament.

Along with the home team, SELAF’s Silverhawks, the Nagykanisza Demons of Hungary and Hunters from Vrbas in Serbia will take the field of NK Prečko stadium starting from 11 AM. Zagreb will square off against the Vrbas Hunters to start the day and after that Demons and the Ljubljana Silverhawks will play for the second spot in the final game.

After trying and failing to get into SELAF this year, Zagreb is counting on joining in 2008. They will likely get strong consideration during league meetings after the season when, among many, the decision about new teams will be made. It is precisely this reason why Zagreb is hoping for a final game against the Silverhawks, as that would be a good test for what could be coming next year.

Last year the Silverhawks beat Zagreb 45-0, but the Thunder now have a full year of friendly games in which they have had moderate success, especially for a new team. The winner of Crobowl last year were the Legionaries, a former SELAF team.

The organizers have announced they expect around 160 players will compete for all four teams during the day. The final is scheduled for 4.30 PM.
