Novi Sad, Belgrade clash in the Serbian league playoffs
Goran Košutić
Perhaps earlier than expected, the Novi Sad Dukes and the Vukovi Belgrade will meet this Sunday in the semifinal of the Serbian league playoffs.
Unlike in the CEFL, where they fell in Novi Sad alone, playing mostly with their backup or development team, the Vukovi finished the regular season with three losses, in fourth place. They beat the fifth seeded team, the Klek Knights, 23-14, in the opening round of a six-team playoff.
The Dukes on the other hand matched their CEFL record, going undefeated in all seven games and finishing the season as the number one team, earning a first round bye along with the second placed team, and former CEFL member, the Kragujevac Wild Boars.
In their one this year, that counted both for the CEFL and the Serbian league, the Dukes beat the Vukovi. They did so last year as well, but ultimately fell short, especially in the Serbian league, when they lost 25-15 in the final in Belgrade.
This time the game will be played in Novi Sad though, and they're in the best position ever to beat all the other teams and capture the first trophey in team history.
