CEFL raises financial support for teams
Goran Košutić
Based on last season’s results, this season was the first in which teams that made the playoff could count on the league to back them financially. The backing came in the form of guaranteed starting money that teams could use in the subsequent season, with the amount of money depending on, simply put, results.
After the signing of the contract between the league and Sportklub for television broadcasts, CEFL will, starting from 2009, raise the amount of starting money that can be won by 10-15%. Equally significant is that from now on teams that failed to qualify for the playoffs will also receive a financial boost from the league -- of course, less than the playoff teams, but still not insignificant.
The bulk of the starting money goes to the playoff teams. The teams that participated in the semifinal last year, made it again this season: the Gladiators, the Wolves, the Vukovi and the Dukes, so the same teams will again fight for the trophy, and something extra.
