Huge blow for Dukes: Juhas done for the year
Goran KošutićPlaying two competitions proved to be costly for the Novi Sad Dukes, as their quarterback Čaba Juhas suffered a leg injury that will prevent him from playing again this season. He broke his shinbone after one of his own teammates fell on his leg during the Dukes Serbian league game against Niš, and was immediately taken to a Novi Sad hospital for surgery.
In the game, he passed for one touchdown in what proved to be a convincing win for the Dukes, a 46-0 win against the team from Southern Serbia. To lose one of your best players is always a big blow, especially in a game they had almost no chance of losing, and especially the way it happened. Up 32 points in the fourth quarter, his teammate, Ivan Kecman, fell on his leg, breaking both the tibia and the fibula.
Although this year he wasn’t the unquestioned starter like in the previous three years, alternating in the position with teammate Rastko Jokić, he still was one of the most experienced players on the team, and the most experienced quarterback. Despite playing in just three of the Dukes five games, he ranks second in the CEFL behind only Attila Lendvai in passing yards, with 612 for the year.
Being one of the league’s top performers since 2006, he was also one of the most injured players, failing to finish last season and finishing 2007 despite a serious shoulder injury he suffered while playing for the Serbian national team during that summer. He may even miss a part of next season because of the injury, and at the age of 26, it wouldn't be surprising if this this was his last game in the CEFL.
