English out of Budapest
Goran KošutićThe Budapest Cowboys have released their Head Coach Wally English from further responsibilities to the team after the third straight loss of the season. The loss to the Dukes wasn’t the primary reason for the Cowboys to replace their coach however, it was his decision to leave the game before the end that forced the Cowboys to act.
“During the 3rd quarter of the Budapest Cowboys-Novi Sad Dukes CEFL game the Head Coach of the home team, Mr. Wally English, had left the field and the facility. He referred to his mental and physical status, and also stated that the unacceptable and scandalous decisions of the referees affected the turnout of the game, and made it impossible for him to deal with“, said Péter Ádám in front of the Cowboys’ organization.
Ádám said that the team’s management did not accept this explanation nor had any understanding for the reasoning, and terminated English’s contract a day later.
“… This attitude is totally unacceptable by any coach or player, for it is seriously damaging team spirit … Mr. English accepted and understood the decision.“
The Cowboys also say they’re ready to move on and that they have no plans of bringing in a new coach for the remainder of the season. They will rely on three of their players to handle the coaching duties -- Jack Lydic, Andre Bynoe and Deric Demyanic -- as well as Laszló Pacuk.
In a game of huge importance, the Cowboys dropped a 12-7 halftime lead, losing 12-28, despite outgaining their opponent by over a 100 yards of offense, and recording 29 1st downs, compared to 10 by the Dukes. At 1-3, the Cowboys still aren't done, since the Dukes are the only team with a winning record in their group, but this week's game against the Silverhawks is a must win.
