Serbian CEFL teams to play for their domestic championship
Available in:

Just like they played for the title in 2007, the Vukovi Belgrade and the Novi Sad Dukes will play again in the final game of the Serbian championship. The Serbian Association’s competition Superliga is in its final week, as the two Serbian teams in the CEFL will play this Sunday in Belgrade from 5PM.
The Vukovi come into the game undefeated for the year, going 8-0 in 8 regular season games, and 6-0 in the CEFL, giving them 13 consecutive wins this year, since their game against the Dukes counted for both competitions. That game was one of few in which they were seriously challenged, but they managed to win after two overtimes in Novi Sad.
“Honestly, I’m not concerned whether the game will be close or not. The most important thing is how it’s going to end. And we want is to end the same way it ended the previous time we played them -- with our win. So, it can be after four quarters or four overtimes, I don’t care”, said the Vukovi’s quarterback Jordan Green for the Serbian Association’s website saaf.rs.
The Dukes season was different -- although they were good enough to beat everyone in the Serbian league other than the Vukovi, the injury filled season saw them lose 3 games in the CEFL. Without both of their quarterbacks, after losing them in one game, they turned to receiver Jovan Plećaš to run the offense, and it was good enough for a trip to the final.
“The recipe is simple, we used what we had. And by that I mean our running game. Of course, the time we spent playing together was also important, the offensive line got used to me, and I got used to them… we saw what we’re able to play. Against weaker teams it was good enough but what’s in front of us in the final demands good preparation and the whole team will have to give its best to match the Vukovi”, said Plećaš.
Counting from their first season of competition in 2004, the Vukovi played in a final each season, not being too succesful, winning the trophy twice. The Dukes had even less success, reaching the final just once, losing to the Vukovi in 2007. They were also eliminated by Belgrade last year in the semifinal.
