Vukovi score 60

Belgrade’s games this year were all very similar — building a large lead in the first half and sitting on it in the second. The Wild Boars were the first team this year that was able to stay close in the first half, but it only led to a second half blowout. After 17-26 at the break, the game ended 23-60.

The Wild Boars put up a better fight than in their first game, but their inability to stop the Vukovi’s offense and especially their special teams prevented them in accomplishing something more. The Vukovi scored over 40 points in all of their games this season, but this time they outdid themselves. And the man probably most deserving scored only one offensive touchdown.

Mihailo Josović ran in for three, Lance Kriesien for two, but it was Anthony Washington who was the deciding factor in this game. He caught one touchdown pass, from backup David Lukić, but he also returned two kickoffs for touchdowns and many others deep, that led to more scores.

That was the case in the second quarter, with the Vukovi leading 7-13. The Wild Boars had just scored to reduce the lead, when Washington returned the kickoff near midfield. On the next play, Josović ran 50 yards to put the lead back to 13. On their next possession, the Boars scored a field goal in the last two minutes — and again, Washington returned the kickoff to the Wild Boars’ half. Next play, Kriesien ran over 40 yards to the endzone.

The home team added some more excitement to the first half, managing a touchdown in the last seconds. Santino Simone and Henry McVay hooked up for their second of three scores. All this for in the end not enough.

The somewhat acceptable 17-26 at the half turned quickly to 17-32 when Washington finally managed to take one kickoff all the way. The Boars’ had one last attempt, reducing to 23-39 early in the fourth, but on the next kickoff Washington scored again and at that point mostly sealed the win.

Miloš Lišanin, currently leading the CEFL in tackles and sacks, had another strong performance. He managed to even score in this one, recovering a fumble and returning it for a touchdown. Josović finished the way he started — with a touchdown run for the final score of 23-60.

With the win, the Vukovi stay undefeated, but their place in the CEFL Bowl was already secure. On the other hand, the Wild Boars will now need to go through Ljubljana to accomplish this goal. Even though they still need to qualify, the Boars are in a better situation than the Silverhawks, since they already beat them 27-13 earlier this season.
