CEFL Championship moves closer to the finals with two games this Saturday. Eastern Conference opens with Belgrade SBB Vukovi welcoming Istanbul Koc Rams. Right after that game finishes, Triangle Razorbacks host the Wroclaw Panthers in the Western Conference.
Vukovi’s were dealt their only loss this season from Kragujevac Wild Boars in the national league. Interestingly, same team was the only ruining factor of the perfect Rams season in their domestic competition, albeit in CEFL Championship. Even more compelling is the fact that Wild Boars defeated them both with a 21-14 score. That tidbit alone could begin to tell the story that the rivals meeting on Saturday in Belgrade are equally matched. The season is still open for both of them, so they will undoubtedly leave everything they have on the field. However, they’ll still have to wait for the game next week, as the winner of this conference will be decided when the Wild Boars meet Budapest Cowbells.
Meanwhile, the way to the finals in the Western Conference is very much closed for both teams playing in Vejle, after SWARCO RAIDERS Tirol routing them both in previous games. However, the teams are still perfect in home leagues and have a lot to say about their legacy. The Razorbacks will try their offense with a new quarterback, Shazzon Mumphrey from USA. And he will have in his arsenal Oliver Romer Holmlund, who proved to be very elusive to Raiders’ defenders, catching 6 passes for 84 yards. On the offensive side, the Poles will no doubt try to get an early lift over quarterback Timothy Morovick and running back Adam Skakowski, who were impressive in their outing against the Austrians.
CEFL Cup will also be played on Saturday in Zagreb. The hometown favorite Patriots will return the hospitality to Sarajevo Spartans. Their first meeting was played on the last day in April, when the offenses were stifled by heavy snow. In the end, the Spartans wanted it more and won the game with a 6 point difference. They are now 1-1 and In order to go to the top over Kranj Alp Devils, they first need to win this one. The Patriots are winless so far with a 3 game losing streak. They seem far removed from last season when they won Central Conference, but are hoping for a second place with a 6+ point victory. They will also need a win by the Alp Devils in the last week of play to achieve this goal.
