Glads at 5 wins as well
The CNC Gladiators recorded their fifth win in as many matches this season, beating the Cowboys on their field in Budapest 42-0.
The game was delayed shortly because of stormy weather and perhaps this was the reason the home team started so sluggishly, turning the ball over twice in the first quarter, leading to two easy scores for the Gladiators.
Martin Bauer scored the first of his game high three touchdowns after the Cowboys left the ball at their own 1 yard line following a bad punt. Pretty soon, the Cowboys fumbled again near their 30 yard line, putting the Gladiators in good position to score again.
The Gladiators were short with their player count again, but they brought all the big guns in Hungary with them, including Joe Widner and Manuel Houtz -- Widner caught the touchdown pass from Bernhard Kamber to make it 14-0.
Opportunities to score, as well as first downs, were scarce for the Cowboys and the score was quickly at 21-0 on a touchdown reception by Houtz. When the Gladiators’ leading rushed, Bauer, ran in once more from the 1 yard line, it was clear there was no coming back for the home team.
Joseph Rosenecker added a touchdown run in the third quarter and Bauer finished in the fourth quarter what he had started with his third scoring run.
The Cowboys were intercepted twice and turned the ball over a total of five times and all things considered, their third loss of the season was unavoidable. The Gladiators on the other hand are enjoying themselves at the top of the North conference with an impeccable 5-0 record and soon enough they’ll officially clinch the playoff spot, if it’s not already a given.
