Western Conference continued this weekend with Cineplexx Blue Devils hosting Project Spielberg Graz Giants while in the East, Indjija Indians welcomed Novi Sad GAT Dukes.
At the start of the game in Hohenems strong wind reduced both teams’ offenses to ground attacks. Giants put the first points on the board in their opening drive over O’Neil Blake who rushed for a 65 yards score. The Blue Devils had tied after Christian Steffani’s interception returned for a touchdown. Giants’ quarterback Christoph Gubisch atoned for his mistake in the next drive connecting with Max Herdey for the go-ahead score. Marco Zöchner increased Giants’ lead next with a field goal. At the expiration time in the first half Gubisch located Clint Floyd in the end zone for 7-23.
In the second act, Giants’ defensive end Daniel Schönet sacked opposing quarterback and recovered the ball. Floyd took advantage of the turnover, this time rushing for a touchdown. Before the end, Gubisch found another target, wide receiver Philipp Sommer for a 48 yards score. The Blue Devils managed to score their first offensive points at the end of the game with Beat Gaechter touchdown to Christian Steffani and the final score 14-37.
In the second game this weekend, visiting team was also more successful, shutting out the hapless Indians. GAT Dukes’ side of the scoreboard never kept still while touchdowns accumulated. Quarterback Andrew Banks was the first to connect with a 40 yard score to Davor Soldo. Defensive touchdown ensued when Vladimir Vasilic returned Indians’ fumble to their end zone. Banks rushed the next touchdown for 85 yards and then passed for another to Andrej Puskas for 25 yards. Before the half, Bosko Jokic rammed one in as well for 3 yards and a half time score of 0-35. Fantastic Banks had quintupled the number of his touchdowns in the second half with two more over the air. First was again to Soldo for 11 yards and the second one to Bojan Davidovic for 40 yards and the final score 0-51.
