Dukes rout Legionaries, inch closer to the final

Seems like the Vojvodina derby remained that only on paper. In a rather one-sided game, the Dukes trounced the Legionaries with convincing 44-0.

Around thousand spectators at the FK Graničar field in Kuzmin were at hand to witness forty minutes of one-way traffic, in which the superior guests from Novi Sad led the onslaught. Dukes` QB Čaba Juhas opened the floodgates early on with a TD pass for Mitar Bajčetić, and that score was quickly followed by a 25 yard field goal booted in by Vladislav Petković. Juhas followed with a TD run in the second quarter, which was bookended by a TD fumble return by DL Nebojša Mirković.

Second half saw two more Juhas-engineered drives, with TD passes arriving for Rastko Jokić and Petar Tomić. The final nail in the Legionaries coffin was hammered by RB Kosta Stojaković, who carried the ball one yard for the game`s ultimate score. It`s also worth noting that the Dukes played out the final minutes with their second and third stringers, so it`s conceivable that the score margin could have been much larger in the end.

The Dukes now must win their one remaining game at home to Ljubljana Silverhawks, and then hope that the Vukovi can beat the Wild Boars in Belgrade. If that happens, the northerners will play against the Belgrade side in the inaugural SELAF final. As for the Legionaries, they have one more chance to erase that zero from the “W” column, which will present itself in a form of away trip to Slovenia.
