The Belgrade Vukovi are the first finalists of this years SELAF. By winning in Ljubljana 21-0 over the Silverhawks, Vukovi secured their place in the final, regardless of the outcome of their last match and also results of any other matches. Their second win over the Silverhawks this season, came easy and convincingly, with an early lead that they kept throughout the game.
The Silverhawks struggled on offense yet again, unsuccessful in their attempts to reach the end zone, resulting in their second straight shutout. Defensively they weren`t helped with the return from Andrej Tasić as the Vukovi`s quarterback, after a missed away game against the Legionaries. He was once again unstoppable, rushing for two, and passing for one touchdown.
The first rushing touchdown came on their possession, with Tasić finishing a strong openning drive with a 20 yard run. Milan Matović wasn`t available for Belgrade, so Ivan Ristić kicked the extra point for 7-0. The same player intercepted a pass by David Turšič getting the ball for his team to start the second quarter. A few plays later it was 13-0, after Andrej Tasić ran 46 yards for a new score with a blocked extra point attempt.
The Vukovi`s good play at that point couldn`t be stopped by penalties, nor with occasional good defensive play by the Silverhawks. Near the end of the halftime, the Silverhawks finally stopped their opponent from reaching their end zone, by sacking Tasić on third down, but the Vukovi scored anyway in a 4th-20 situation when Pavle Tasić caught another touchdown for the year. Miloš Jovanović ran the ball in the end zone for two points.
In the second half, the Vukovi could`ve added to their lead, but failed to do so with two drives that were stopped inside the opponent`s ten yard line. In the end, it wasn`t too important, as their defense had no problems in stopping the Silverhawks.
“I was a little afraid of the trip, how it would turn out, but team discipline was high”, said Andrej Tasić after the match. “I didn`t practice with the team prior to the start of the league`s second part because of an injury, so it`ll take some time for me to get used to everything. The team, and especially the defense, played great. We had a few mistakes, but all in all we`ve done what we came here to do”, he added.
David Turšič played more on offense as a quarterback, and less in his usual spot as a safety. “It was a good game, I`m glad that the defense played better in the second half and didn`t concede points. We don`t play well on offense, because we lack players. I want us to play as well as we can in our last two games”, said Turšič.
