Wolves easy win

The Budapest Wolves beat the Lower Austrian Titans in their season opener in the Austrian Division I 0-27 in Vienna. The Austrian team formed of former players of the Baden Bruins and AFC Rangers could not match the Wolves’ neither in size and power, nor in skills and knowledge of the game. The Wolves did not score a touchdown in the second half preventing a real KO from happening.

Backup QB Attila Lendvai looked great in most of the first half passing for two touchdowns and picking up a couple of first downs running. FB Péter Cseperkáló opened the scoring on a one yard TD run on a drive dominated by running plays. The second score came on a one play drive, Lendvai completing a pass to Krisztián Piros for the score. Titans QB Robin Lumsden was sacked and intercepted twice (Slewitzke, Farkas) in the half while Csanád Király scored for the third time in the season. Lendvai was also intercepted as the Wolves went for the long ball as the clock wound down in the half.

In the second half the Titans played somewhat better – four of their six first downs came after halftime and the Wolves struggled a little on offense. Kicker Gábor Sviatkó missed a field goal from 39 yards but nailed two from inside the 30 to clinch the 0-27 final score. Lumsden was sacked on back to back plays by Gyula Bíró and was intercepted again and again by both Krisztián Papp and John Trikkas in an exceptional shutout effort by the Wolves D.
