Ljubljana forms second team

Because of a continued roster growth, the Ljubljana Silverhawks have formed a second team. Just last year, their head coach Uroš Valant told CEFL Online that although the team is struggling to find new players, they are hoping for things to improve because NFL broadcasts have made a return to Slovenian TV.

It has in fact turned true as they now have around 70 players altogether, an important fact for a team that has made it a habit to rely on foreign players in the last two years, mostly from Italy and Austria. On top of those 70, they will again have players from Aviano, Italy as the rookies probably won’t play too much in the CEFL.

There are also positive football news from Slovenia in general. For years, the Silverhawks were the only American football team in Slovenia, but recently two more teams have popped up, in Maribor and in Žalec. The Slovenian Federation has been formed, although it’s still in the early stages.

The Silverhawks are hoping that in the future they could participate in a Slovenian only league, which would be a good platform to give more playing time for players on the second team. For now, they will probably play friendly games and 9-on-9 football against Italian teams.
