The Novi Sad Dukes and the Vukovi Belgrade cruised to easy wins in the opening round of the Serbian league. Especially convincing was the Vukovi’s win in Vrbas, where they won 62-0. Compared to that, Dukes’ win in Vršac was nowhere near as big, although it was 46-13.
Belgrade will, for the second year in a row, play its second team in the Serbian league. For the first game, though, they brought their CEFL squad to northern Serbia in order to play at least one game before the season starts in CEFL. Despite the fact their opponent wasn’t as strong as most of their CEFL competition will be — the Vukovi didn’t even score in the fourth quarter, after being up 33-0 at halftime — it’s safe to say they will again be a strong team this year.
Unlike Belgrade, Novi Sad doesn’t have a clear first and second team, so they will use all of their players in the Serbian league, though they will look to give more opportunity to players that don’t play key roles. In Vršac, they built a safe 19 point lead, before the starters were pulled in favor of backups and newcomers.
Dukes kickoff theirs and CEFL season next weekend in Budapest against the Cowboys, while the Vukovi host Zagreb a week later.
