The Budapest Wolves set a new Hungarian record by beating their hosts, the North Pest Vipers by a full 100 points in the Hungarian Division I.
The previous records were set by the Győr Sharks in 2006 when they beat the Eger Heroes 86:6 in Division I, and by the Budapest Cowboys last year who had dominated the Nyíregyháza Tigers 88:0 in Division II.
The class difference between the two teams surfaced quickly, the Wolves led by 29 points at the end of the first quarter. The mercy rule came into force in the beginning of the second quarter, but that didn’t keep the Wolves from scoring 50 by halftime.
In the second half every player from the Wolves’ roster appeared on the field, starters could rarely be spotted in the away team. The second and third string players seized the opportunity and doubled the score until the final whistle.
This same day the Wolves Ladies, women’s team of the Wolves played its first official game in the AFBÖ Ladies Cup. The Ladies started out strong leading through the first quarter, keeping the score close in the first half, but eventually were overwhelmed by the four time running champion Vienna Vikings Ladies and settled for a score of 34:50.
