Despite playing without any foreign players, the Ljubljana Silverhawks put up a good fight in Novi Sad, before losing 7-3.
In what might be called a definition of an ugly game, the Novi Sad Dukes needed almost the entire game to score a touchdown, and it turned out to be the game winner. Quarterback Rastko Jokić passed to receiver Jovan Plećaš, who scored to give his team the 7-3 lead with just under 5 minutes to go, from which to Silverhawks couldn’t recover.
They have no one to blame except themselves, as the second quarter field goal were their only points of the game, and the only time they managed to capitalize on Novi Sad’s stunning eight turnovers — five on fumbles and three on interceptions. Quite similar to the game between these teams last year when Novi Sad was also the host, the Silverhawks were the team that, for a while, seemed to enjoy the poor field condition more than their opponent, but in the end, the defense that held them throughout the game, couldn’t stop the Dukes one last time.
