If it wasn’t enough they lost to the Vukovi Belgrade, all but eliminating themselves from the playoffs, the Budapest Wolves will play out the 2009 season without their leading receiver for the year. Csanad Kiraly severely injured his knee ligaments in the game, and will be absent from the team until at least September, when the regular season ends.
The Vukovi became the first team to secure the playoff spot after going 5-0 with the win, and the only remaining chance the Wolves can advance is if the Blue Devils lose at least four out of their remaining five games. Since this is highly unlikely, Kiraly’s season is probably over.
With the team since they joined the league, this has been his best start, since he ranked third in the league in receiving yards. He scored once in each of his two 100-yard games, and he also had the only touchdown his team scored against the Vukovi, catching a pass for Attila Lendvai. He also scored the second touchdown in the CEFL Bowl II, in the last game of the 2007 season.
