First time in this season the Budapest Wolves had a comfortable lead in the first half so the mercy rule was in effect for the whole second half of the game.
The running game dominated on the Wolves offensive side, while the defense barely allowed a few first downs for the Thunder. László Csizmazia opened the scoring on the Wolves’ second possession with a 70-yard run, then Peter Cseperkáló added two more. The first quarter ended with the game already out of sight for Zagreb.
The second quarter started with a long, 70-yard catch-and-run by Ákos Újfalusi that extended the lead to 28 points. In this game everything swung to the Wolves’ favour: Csaba Majoros’ poor kickoff bounced back of a Zagreb lineman ten yards from the kickoff and the ball was recovered by the man who started everything – Majoros. This possession ended with a Norbert Erdélyi (#45) touchdown and fullback Dávid Koleszár (#37) added one more, to close the first half with a 41:0 Wolves lead.
As agreed upon by the coaches the second half was played with running clock. Wolves offense still had time to register three more touchdowns, two by Cseperkáló one by Koleszár to set the final score of 60:0.
The Wolves defense also dominated on their side, defensive linemen Dániel Titz set the single game sack record for the Wolves with 3 quarterback captures, while the secondary registered four interceptions — Csaba Péter, Leo Kronberger, Tamás Migály and Csaba Rozsnyik each had one.
The Wolves accomplished the obligatory task two weeks before playing against the Cineplexx Blue Devils in Austria with still a chance to make the playoffs.
