The Budapest Wolves slipped past the Ljubljana Silverhawks on a last minute touchdown in Budapest Saturday. The Hungarians had to overcome the notoriously strong Ljubljana running game and a surprising second half passing attack resulting in two long touchdowns, but also five turnovers of their own.
The first half was clearly dominated by defense as the Wolves stopped the Silverhawks on every occasion and managed to pass for a score — Attila Lendvai to Krisztian Piros — and scored on a field goal. Behind by 10 points at the half the Silverhawks adjusted well for the Wolves power running and while most of their offensive plays were still handoffs to Capitanio, they managed to catch the Hungarian defense off balance with a tailback option pass and after that another long pass resulting in a touchdown. Surprisingly, they were up 3 points near the end of the game.
Similarly to some of their previous games, they still lost. In the last minutes the Wolves offense put together an 80 yard drive highlighted by three 4th down conversions and LB/FB Khoury Noure flipping into the endzone with 45 seconds left that eventually sealed the deal.
