Doubleheader: CEFL battles for playoff positions

Two matches will be played this weekend in CEFL, and both will be crucial for playoffs: Silverhawks host reigning champions Vukovi, while Wolves will take on Dukes in Budapest.

After cruising to another title game in Serbian Superleague, Vukovi will visit Ljubljana where hosts are more then ready to prove once again that they can match Belgrade power. They’ve did it in the first game when their 0-10 lead at half-time vanished in second half after allowing 21 unanswered points.

Silverhawks are looking for both, revenge and a chance for first place at league standings, which can only be achieved if Ljubljana win both remaining matches while Vukovi lose their couple of games, including potential “12 or more points” defeat against Silverhawks.

Game, scheduled for 16:00 CET on Saturday at NK Slovan stadium could be also seen live at Slovenian Šport TV 2, and as well at Arena Sport 1 in Serbia.

On the other hand, Wolves will do their best to make sure they’ll participate in playoffs, since 4th-placed Dukes are on the verge of elimination and are the lone threat to that goal. Only two big time wins can open the door for the team from Novi Sad, same one that won Serbian semi-final game and will face Vukovi for domestic title like in 2009. Wolves, meanwhile, were quite good in Belgrade against Vukovi, but couldn’t find the way to shut down all the weapons of reigning champs. Now they are seeking second victory over Dukes in 2010, which will allow them to visit Ljubljana in last round of regular season with hope they’ll finish above Silverhawks at league standings.

Like game in Slovenia, this one will also start on Saturday, 16:00 CET.

Despite battle for the playoffs continues, one spot is already occupied: Istanbul Cavaliers qualified directly for the playoffs. Their final wild-card match with reigning CEFL runner-ups was cancelled due to Cineplexx Blue Devils’ calendar, which has to be completely re-scheduled because of big floods in central Europe. Blue Devils’ were forced to cancel their clash with new Turkish champions, who defeated Bucharest Warriors 42-10 in CEFL pre-qualifier, so Cavaliers will visit 1st seeder in the first round of CEFL playoffs.
