Coach Harper parts away with Vukovi
22 August 2010Vukovi Beograd defended their title after defeating Ljubljana Silverhawks 20-42 in CEFL 2010 Finals.
But, it was all like a dream for hosts as they took the lead with 18-yard touchdown run by CEFL Offensive MVP Jordan Capitanio. That 6-0 advantage Silverhawks kept until second quarter, when their dreams has started to vanish.
Great Jordan Green’s 40-yarder to Nemanja Cerovac led to points, as Brendon McDowell scored with outside run from one yard out, and after taking the lead with Milan Matovic’s first from six consecutive PATs, Vukovi never looked back.
McDowell made it 6-14 with a 70 yards long run in the second quarter, and reigning champions struck three times more after coming back from half-time. Green’s 5-yard run was followed by McDowell short TD-rush, and then Anthony Stubbs moved 60 yards through Silverhawks defense to make it 6-35 at the start of fourth quarter.
Another Stubbs’ 76-yard touchdown, this time after screen set by Jordan Green, made it perfectly clear who’ll take the trophy. Still, Silverhawks decided not to let down their fans at Ivančna Gorica’s stadium despite the loss. Gregor Črepinšek made it 12-42 after short run, and then hosts scored once more for final 20-42 result: Jan Jakus’ 10-yard pass was caught by Jernej Pavlič, and Miloš Vrhovec’s conversion for two points was a final scoring play of the game.
Vukovi defended title for the first time in their history, and for the third time (2007, 2009, 2010) became champions of Central European Football League.
