The SBB Vukovi Belgrade visited Budapest once again and once again came out on top against the Wolves. They scored first, led from start to finish and won 13-34.
Unlike the first game between the teams this season, when the Vukovi’s offense decided the game, it was more their defense this time around. Although they also scored 34 points and won by more than 20 points, the game was much closer until the fourth quarter. The SBB Vukovi led 6-20 at the half, thanks to two passes from Lance Kriesien to Filip Stojanović and a Brandon McDowell run, while the Wolves managed just two field goals.
After a scoreless third quarter, the Wolves decided that they do in fact want to make it a bit more intereseting. They scored when Peter Lennel caught a touchdown pass to cut the lead to just 7 points. But the Vukovi’s offense finally found some rhythm in the fourth, finally scoring two more touchdowns to put the game away. McDowell ran in for another one and Kriesien passed for this third, this time to Stefan Conić.
With this game, the SBB Vukovi secure the top spot before the playoffs start. They have one more game left, in Austria against the Cineplexx Blue Devils, but they are out of reach for all teams. Only the Ljubljana Silverhawks can match their record, but the Vukovi hold the tiebreaker, because of their win over the Slovenian team.
