The PBB Kragujevac Wild Boars got their third win of the season behind a strong performance from their new quarterback Santino Simone and a defense that allowed only 7 points. As was the case in their first game, the Budapest Wolves were an easy prey for the Boars; the final score was 49-7.
Despite the win, the Wild Boars couldn’t feel much joy, as they were stunned and saddened by the loss of Miro Bogdanović, their long time player and coach. He lost his life two days ago in a traffic accident at the age of only 30. He will be remembered as one of the members of the Wild Boars championship winning team in 2006 as well as being a member of the Serbian national team. He retired from active playing in 2011. The CEFL offers condolences to his family, former teammates and of course the Wild Boars organization.
Considering the circumstances, the Wild Boars played a hell of a game. Similar to the game in Budapest, the Wolves’ had no answer for the opposing team’s quarterback. This time it was Simone who finished the game with two rushing and five passing touchdowns. His first rushing touchdown put the Boars up 7-0 and his team never let go of the lead. It was 28-0 in the third quarter when Krisztián Piros caught a Dávid Récsey pass for the Wolves’ only points.
Chad Rusinkovich and Filip Nedeljković of the Boars each caught a pair of touchdowns. The last one went into the hands of Nikola Tomić.
With the win, the Wild Boars are tied with the Vukovi for the number of wins, but still have the one loss suffered in Belgrade. The Boars’ next game is in Kragujevac, hosting the Vukovi. The game has the potential to decide the number one team before the CEFL Bowl.
As for the Wolves, their chances of making the final are mostly theoretical. Ignoring the fact that they lost all three games convincingly, they could finish at best 3-3 and they already lost the tiebreaker against the Boars. The possibility of a three-way tie doesn’t exist either, since they play the Silverhawks twice in the remainder of the season. Their only chance is that they win all three of their games, with the Vukovi losing all three and that they manage to make up for the 26 point loss against the Vukovi.
