The Ljubljana Silverhawks returned to the field where they won the last year’s championship, but they had less success this time. The SBB Vukovi Belgrade recorded another convincing win, beating the Silverhawks 46-21 to improve their record to 4-0 and to also clinch their eight straight bowl appearance.
After three previous similar wins by the Vukovi, the game went probably as expected. The Silverhawks suggested it would maybe not be the case, with Bojan Justin catching the first of his two touchdowns to reduce the Vukovi’s lead to 13-7 in the first quarter. It was however all they accomplished as the first half ended 31-7 in favor of the home team. Mihailo Josović scored two touchdowns including the openning one and Lance Kriesien had his typically strong performance with two passing and one rushing touchdowns.
The rest of the game played out similar to the first game in Ljubljana. The Silverhawks managed to score more points, but not to reduce the lead. After passes to Mario Lugonja and Anthony Washington in the first half, Kriesien found Filip Stojanović for his third passing touchdown and a 39-7 lead early in the third quarter. He also finished with two on the ground.
Keith Lockwood passed for two touchdowns, after a good performance last week, but when the opponent scores 46 points in three quarters, it is hard to get a win. Matic Tomše scored the only touchdown of the fourth quarter, with the Silverhawks at least winning that part of the game.
The Vukovi travel to Kragujevac in two weeks, for a game that could also clinch them first place in the standings. The game is however of an even greater importance for Ljubljana, as anything but a Vukovi win eliminates them from bowl contention.
