In week 5, Domžale Tigers have hosted the Alp Devils seeking their first international win. The weather had a big influence on the game with heavy rain persisting during the entire playing time. That didn’t stop the Alp Devils to clinch the second spot in the Central Conference.
Wet conditions set the tempo from the start with a lot of running plays over the middle. The Tigers scored their first points after a 70 yard run by Klemen Svetlin that ended deep in opponent’s red zone, topping it off by a quarterback sneak for a touchdown by Sašo Vrečar. The Alp Devils responded with runs by their running back Rok Milek, who carried his team the whole game. They first tied the game at 7 and then again at 14, after the Tigers upped the score again with another quarterback sneak. Some 20 seconds before the end of the first half, Tigers’ own, Luka Kotnik stepped up by first returning the punt to the Alp Devils’ 5 yard line and then scoring with 6 seconds left on the clock on a reverse run for his first touchdown this season and a score of 14-20.
The second half was a test of will for both teams. The rainfall was even heavier and the Alp Devils decided to run the football with Milek, gaining 1st downs and eventually taking the lead. The Tigers on the other side struggled with their offensive series but had opportunities to score that fell short. Their defense also couldn’t find ways to stop the Alp Devils’ running game and Milek ran for 2 more touchdowns to seal the game at 36-20.
