At the opening of CEFL Cup last Sunday, group East had to honor to raise the curtain. In a Vojvodinian rivalry, Novi Sad GAT Dukes have played host to Sirmium Legionaries. If one can tell a productive season by its opening week, this one will be a blast.
GAT Dukes team has shown great potential in an impressive performance. Both teams have made the most of their chances in the first half, although Legionaries couldn’t match their opponents’ offense. GAT Dukes were a step ahead on both sides of the ball and took the lead 28-12 at the break.
They extended the margin in the third quarter, jumping straight from the block with a couple of touchdowns. Their defense was up to par as well, not allowing the Legionaries to score in the latter half. As the game was winding down, GAT Dukes posted another score to light up the scoreboard with the final 50-12.
CEFL Cup continues next week with two games. In Group East, Kranj Alp Devils host their old acquaintances from last season Sarajevo Spartans. A day later, Indjija Meridian Indians will welcome GAT Dukes, and try to show their mettle against an imposing competitor.
