The opening round started in Sweden. One of the matchups was played in Carlstad, where the Swedish champions, Crusaders met with the Norwegian counterparts, Eidsvoll 1814’s. It was a lopsided win for the home team, with all four quarters going in their favor, leaving the visitors scoreless.

Norwegian team’s struggles to make progress persisted throughout the whole game. Their defense was more effective at first, but Crusaders’ passing strategy found a way to put the first points on the board when signal caller Slade Jarman connected with Leo Markusson for 7-0.

Second quarter brought another touchdown through the air again when Jarman located Anton Jansson and the score stood at 14-0.

The Swedes crossed the opposing goal line once more before the intermission but their long range touchdown was nullified by a holding penalty.

In the third period Jarman’s 37 yard scamper brought in the kicking unit and Christopher Helgar booted a 3-pointer in for 17-0.

Following one more failed offensive attempt by the visiting team, Jarman first extended the drive with a long rush and then capped it off with another scoring toss to Markusson, 24-0.

Not having anything to lose, the visitors even tried getting their offense going on 4th downs resorting to fake punts but that didn’t bring any tangible result.

Late in the final quarter Crusaders’ running back Oliver Skoglund found a hole to up the score over the ground to 30-0.

The last touchdown came from the short field when Simon Turzik took over as the offensive leader and closed the scoring session at 37-0.

Christoffer Helgar was voted game MVP for his two interceptions on the defense and 7 points kicking.
