A late afternoon game of the first round was a Serbian encounter. In the capitol city, Belgrade SBB Vukovi have played host to Kragujevac Wild Boars in a contest that had double implications, serving as both the CEFL Championship game and a national league one. The visitors have won all four quarters, outdoing the locals by a large margin.
The scoreboard lit up after the first Wild Boars’ drive when their quarterback Isaiah Green delivered the ball to Bogdan Šundović, who careened alongside the left sideline for 0-7.
Belgradians answered right back in the same vein. Signal caller Shazzon Mumphrey zipped a sharp spiral to Luka Pešić, but the 2 point conversion trick play fell through, 6-7.
In the second quarter the visitors have found a magic formula. Their offense kept putting the points up and the defense added a turnover. Running back Zachery Smith first corralled one of Green’s tosses and sprinted into the end zone for 6-14.
Then Green ran it in himself, 6-21. Following an interception that gave the ball back to him on the short field, Green was promptly at the goal line. His pass to TE Mitch Sawyer upped the score to 6-28.
A long range pass by Green right in Smith’s basket ended the scoring session in the first half at 6-35.
Smith continued right where he left off with a kickoff return touchdown to open the third quarter, 6-42.
The 35+ difference set the “mercy rule” in motion, diminishing home team’s chances of a revival. They managed to turn it off over Mumphrey, who rushed for 12-42.
That was all they could do though. Smith activated it again, stiff-arming a tackler and going the distance to put the final score at 12-48.
