Wolves still rulers of Hungary
27 October 2010Wolves set for the new season
10 March 2011Central European Football League has finalized its plans for 2011, in which last year’s play format will be kept and improved.
The league is scheduled to start on the 9th of April with the same opening game as last year: Vukovi – Silverhawks in Belgrade. CEFL Bowl VI is scheduled for the 23rd of July.
Most of the things from last year’s format remain unchanged – the only important difference is that the Istanbul Cavaliers will become a full time member of the league. Three other teams will participate alongside them: the Vukovi Belgrade looking for their third straight title, the Budapest Wolves and the Ljubljana Silverhawks.
Since the Cavaliers won the Turkish league trophy for the first time in their history, and the other teams successfully defended their national crowns, the CEFL will in 2011 consist of 4 current national champions.
Most importantly, every team will play all the other teams twice during 10 weekends of play. This year, the top two teams of the regular season will face off in the CEFL Bowl.
Although more teams participated in the past, this year will probably be the largest task to handle, since the Cavaliers will actively participate this year and Istanbul is by far the most distant location where a CEFL game was or will be played. Therefore, the league will financially support teams regarding their traveling costs to Turkey.
TV broadcasts are once again confirmed for Serbia and Slovenia and the league is currently looking for TV options in Turkey and Hungary, since the primary goal is to cover market of more than 90 million people in all competing and surrounding countries.
