Wild Boars leave Ljubljana with a win

The Kragujevac Wild Boars won their season opener by beating the Ljubljana Silverhawks on the road, 19-6. In front of 800 Silverhawks supporters, the home team failed to get a win for the second week in a row.

QB Đorđe Đorđević, who became a Wild Boar before the season, threw a touchdown pass in his first drive by completing a 2-yard pass to Mladen Pavlović. Unfortunately for the visiting team, their kicker, Nenad Krsmanović, missed an extra point so the score remained 6-0. At this point in the game, the Silverhawks offense was dominated by the Wild Boars defense, something that would not change much throughout the game.

By the second quarter Kragujevac was already cruising to its first win. With a balanced drive, combining the good running of Aleksandar Ristić with passes mostly to fullback Veljko Petrović, the Wild Boars gained 91 yards on their way to a score. Ristić eventually crossed the goal line on a 7-yard run, with Krsmanović converting the extra point attempt this time for 13-0 lead.

In the beginning of the second half, Kragujevac had a good opportunity to put the game away when Ognjen Nikolić returned a kick 75 yards, but the pass by Đorđević on third down to Vučković went into the wrong hands as was intercepted.

As in the Belgrade game, the Silverhawks took advantage of a serious mistake by their opponents to get their first points. This time after a failed punt attempt and block by Boštjan Klampfer, the ball went into the hands of Marinko Mijatović who took it for a touchdown. The home team wasn`t successful in their two point conversion attempt, and the score remained 13-6.

Unlike the game in Belgrade, though, they only scored once in the end. All their hopes were dispersed by Kragujevac`s backup quarterback Nemanja Trajković, who took advantage of a blitz by several Silverhawks players and found Vuk Vučković for a 25-yard score. The final score in this interesting game was 19-6.
