At the start of the 2011 CEFL season, the Vukovi once again got the best of the Ljubljana Silverhawks 21-9.
This time last year, the Silverhawks took a 10 point lead to halftime and this time it was not much different, as the Slovenian team was up 6-7 at halftime.
The Vukovi struck first in the first quarter, when their newcomer at quarterback, Vinnie Miroth, connected with another newcomer Bratislav Bošnjak for a 6-0 lead following a blocked extra point. However, another newcomer to the CEFL, quarterback Vinnie Gay of the Silverhawks, scored on a 3-yard run giving the away team a 6-7 lead.
The lead held to halftime and scoring opportunities were few, since defenses on both sides of the ball dominated. Silverhawks extended the lead on a safety, but the defense of the Vukovi struck next, when Marko Bates intercepted Gay and scored. Miroth found Dejan Cerovac for two points and a 14-9 lead.
The Vukovi secured the win on a 55 yard pass from Miroth to Cerovac. Vinnie Gay was intercepted a total of three times, the last one in the fourth quarter by Ivan Nedeljković, his second.
Game Notes
Nedeljković’s brother Igor played his last game for the Vukovi, joining many of the Vukovi’s defensive players, that decided to stop playing following last season. He was with the team since they were founded.
