Round 2 of the CEFL Championship started off in Carlstad, where the Crusaders rolled out the red carpet for Bristol Aztecs. Both teams had won their opening round matchups, shellacking their opponents. That fact has raised expectations for this game, as the stronger contestant was guaranteed a spot in the semifinals.
Even so, the visitors didn’t resemble their old self from the first round. The home team overshadowed them, winning all four quarters and blanking them in the end.
Signs of life for the visiting team came on the defense, with interceptions by Daniel Bate and Matheus Nudelman. On the other side of the ball, their offense was completely stifled. Repeatedly going 3 and out, unsurprisingly, the Aztecs managed only 43 offensive yards for the day.
It was a completely different affair for the domestic attack unit. Their quarterback, Slade Jarman scored all 5 touchdowns of the game, 3 by connecting with his receivers and 2 over the ground.
The scoring session was opened with Jarman going to Matteo Mozzanica, 7-0.
In the second quarter Jarman first plowed through the defenders for 14-0. He then went to Jacob Bergwall to set the half-time score to 21-0.
Continuing right where he left off, Jarman started the third period with a lofty pass to Albin Forsman, who stood out with 149 receiving yards in the game. Then Jarman called his own number for 28-0.
Final score was solidified with another one of Jarman’s passes, this time to Anton Jansson and the impressive victory by their team of 35-0.
The Crusaders have shut out both of their rivals in this competition up till now. Let’s see how the semifinals go for them. They have certainly proven to be a formidable contestant.
