Game 3 of the second round was played at the new stadium, Obere Au in Chur. Calanda Broncos have hosted Kragujevac Wild Boars in a very lopsided matchup.
The game was marred by the visiting team’s mental mistakes and penalties. Meanwhile, everything clicked for the Swiss, which were the only one team on the field. They’ve posted 6 touchdowns by half time, shortening the second portion with a running clock.
One possible explanation for the visitors’ dismal performance is that their bus was involved in a minor traffic accident en route to the game. After an overnight stay in Vienna, waiting for it to be repaired, they rode 9 hours straight to the kickoff. That’s not to take anything away from the home team’s formidable play.
A steady stream of scoring actions was displayed by the Broncos, surrendering none. Quarterback Robin Sennrich first employed Maxwell Gray to move the chains and Erik Rageth bull-rushed in from the 1 yard line, 7-0.
After the Wild Boars QB coughed up the ball, Sennrich started the drive from the opposing 33 yard line and rushed from there through the middle, 14-0.
Another turnover followed with the Broncos’ defensive back Matthias Tanno’s interception, allowing running back Noah Bachofen a 30 yard scamper for 21-0.
In the second quarter a play action pass saw Sennrich lobbing to Gray, who was wide open near the right sideline, 28-0.
A third turnover by the Wild Boars was a muffed snap that was quickly recovered by the home team’s defense. Short distance made it easier for running back Amel Adjovi to break through the line for 35-0.
Broncos’ defensive back Patrick Grand recorded an interception of his own, leading to one more Sennrich to Gray link for 42-0.
Adjovi’s second touchdown over the ground set the final score of the game to 49-0.
