First major addition in 2009

The new look of the Vukovi Belgrade for 2009 doesn’t stop with the signing of a new Head Coach — with their running back and linebacker William Blocker staying in the US, and receiver and quarterback Jordan Green switching teams, the team has quickly found a new import player with the addition of Brandon McDowell.

A four year veteran in two indoor football leagues in the United States, from 2004 to 2007, McDowell plays wide receiver, running back and defensive back. He played his first season in Europe last year, with the Danube Dragons of the Austrian Football League where he started at receiver.

“It is an honor to be a member of the Vukovi Beograd. I am very pleased to have the opportunity to come over and help the team to get better. I would like to thank Mr. Goran Nisavic and Coach John Harper for making this an easy transition. I expect to be to be an immediate contributor on this team and help us win a championship. I also expect to be a leader and a teacher of the game to some younger players“, said McDowell on joining the team

Both McDowell and their new coach John Harper are expected to arrive late January-early February, when they will start preparing for the 2009 season.

Being so versatile, he will likely replace Blocker’s role, and the team says they’re still looking for a quarterback. In his career, McDowell has also filled the role of kick returner – he returned 14 for 203 yards in six games last year with the Dragons. Playing receiver, he caught 23 passes for 500 yards and 6 touchdowns.
