Joy for Vukovi, home advantage for Silverhawks

Regular season of CEFL 2010 has been finished with Vukovi 40-2 victory over Novi Sad, and Silverhawks 26-10 important win against Wolves which sealed them as hosts of semi-finals.

Vukovi cruised to 6th win in a row in this CEFL season, which was also enough for domestic title in Serbia as their match with Dukes was used as Superleague finals as well. With two early touchdowns in stormy conditions in Belgrade, one by Dejan Cerovac who caught 13-yarder pass from Jordan Green and next one when Anthony Stubbs returned punt 55 yards for touchdown, reigning CEFL and Serbian champions announced they aren’t ready for any kind of surprise.

Three consecutive Brandon McDowell touchdowns in second quarter, first after 65 yards gained from a pass from Green, and next two with short runs, sealed the deal for Vukovi already at the half. Boško Punoševac made it 40-0 with an INT returned for touchdown and lone Dukes’ points came in 4th quarter with Dušan Dragićević’s safety.

As league leaders without defeat, Vukovi will play with new Turkish champions Istanbul Cavaliers in semi-finals, while Ljubljana Silverhawks earned second seed with a win over Wolves, who slept to 3rd position.

Game in Slovenia was a decider for home field advantage in CEFL semi-finals, and it was Wolves who have a slight better chances to bring play-off game to Budapest. In first game with Silverhawks they’ve won 17-13 so even a 3-point defeat would suit them, but it was all about Ljubljana in re-match. With 26-10 victory Slovenian team succeeded to climb to second position at league standings and will host semi-finals in which they’ll once again face Budapest Wolves.
