Vukovi with three new players, new quarterback

Lance Kriesien was a two-time CEFL MVP for the Vukovi, but he will continue his career in Poland. In his place, the team from Belgrade signed Shaun Rutherford, formerly of Texas State University.

Rutherford originally played at Blinn University, but transferred to Texas State. Even though he was initially a receiver, he became a starter at quarterback for two years. Considering the three previous import quarterbacks of the Vukovi all won Offensive Player of the Year award at one point, Rutherford certainly has big shoes to fill.

He will have help in the name of Tony Washington, who also resigned with the team after a very successful 2013 season. He did not win an individual award, but finished the season as the league leading receiver and best returner. He also had his moments on defense and all in all, was a valuable member of the Vukovi’s championship team.

Last but not least, Dextrell Simmons will anchor the defense at linebacker/defensive back. He replaces the blue grass of the Boise State Broncos for the artificial turf of the Vukovi’s field. Considering the status and rank of Boise State, he may as well be their biggest addition to ever — one more indication that the team from Belgrade has no plans of lowering their goals next year.
